Remove Me.
Decision making and planning are some of my greatest enemies. Not because I am not good at them but because I am. I am usually a pretty “go with the flow” type of person, but when it comes to making decisions and plans for the trajectory of my life, I tend to try and have it mapped out pretty far in advance.
I graduated from LSU a semester early simply because I dislike school and wanted to get my “real life” rolling as soon as possible. with this type of attitude, I tend to spend so much time anticipating the things to come, that I miss out on what God is doing right in front of me. My “plan-it-out” attitude often leaves me disappointed.
Recently, I sat down to spend time with the Lord in his word. But before I opened the bible, I prayed for the Lord’s will in my life to be done in regards to some upcoming personal decisions that need to be made. One phrase continued to come into my mind, “Remove me.” Remove me from the throne of my life, and return me to my rightful place at the feet of Jesus. As I was praying for the Lord’s will to be done, I was actually praying that the Lord’s will be done according to the plan that I have made or imagined.
The moment we try to remove the Lord Jesus from the throne of our lives and take control, destruction and devastation take root in our lives. Until we realize our helplessness without Christ, our lives will feel like trying to steer a sailboat without sails. God extended his grace to us because He wants a relationship with us. There is nothing we could ever give to the Father that he could need, but He wants our lives.
When we surrender everything to the God of the universe, this is when we taste for the first time, joy and freedom that can only come from a good and gracious god.
The God who made the world and everything in it, being Lord of heaven and earth, does not live in temples made by man, nor is he served by human hands, as though he needed anything, since he himself gives to all mankind life and breath and everything. And he made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined allotted periods and the boundaries of their dwelling place, that they should seek God, and perhaps feel their way toward him and find him. Yet he is actually not far from each one of us, ACTS 17:24-27
